Welcome to my project! My name is Christina Noto and I am a rising junior at Gettysburg College. I am a history major with a double minor in political science and women, gender and sexuality studies. I created this website during the summer of 2017 as a Digital Scholarship Summer Fellow at Gettysburg College’s Musselman Library.

This project is derived from a visual culture assignment I completed for my Spring 2017 Gender in the American Civil War class. For that project, I researched a piece called “The Rising of the People,” a recruitment song written after the Battle of Fort Sumter in 1861.

Gettysburg College’s Special Collections & College Archives has an expansive Civil War sheet music collection. This project would not have been possible without the help of Special Collections and their willingness to make the collection available to me. A digital project on the collection has just been completed by Caitlin Connelly ’17 titled “Music Test.”

Although this website is “live,” this is an ongoing project and I am still researching, making changes, and updating content. I would love to hear your feedback. Please feel free to comment on the different pages of the website, or contact me directly:
